How to make a day in the life video

Hey there,

Can we flip the script today? Instead of telling you one thing you should know, I would love to get your thoughts on something I should know. 👇

One thing you I should know

Why don’t brands post videos on social media?

We see many successful people around us who do, and we all have cameras in our pockets. So why don’t we make stuff and post it?

And this isn’t meant to make you feel bad. Truly. Even I struggle to make videos consistently, and I have a freakin’ video production studio with a million-dollar LED wall and a team that makes incredible things.

I thought about this a lot over the weekend — here are the six reasons I came up with:

  1. No time

  2. No equipment

  3. Don’t know what to say

  4. Worried about appearances

  5. Tried it before and it didn’t work

  6. Never tried it but don’t think it will work

Do any of these describe you, or did I miss one?

Can you do me a favor and reply to this email to let me know?

Your thoughts would help so much!

One thing you should do

The mundane tasks we take for granted as part of a J-O-B are interesting to others. And it helps grow your following.

Here’s why: nothing gives you more credibility than showing what you claim you do.

You’ll want to capture clips of your day from your view without talking to the camera. It can be:

  • Commuting

  • Walking into work

  • Timelapse of you doing work

  • Panning the camera showing your view throughout the day

  • Closeup shot of whatever you do

  • Wrapping up

  • Commuting back home

Then, take the best of the clips and arrange them in order, being careful to cut from clip to clip as quickly as you can.

Record a voiceover where you start with “Come with me as I [fill in the blank]” and then describe what happened that day.

Finally, add a trending song and post it!

Congrats! You made a “day in the life” video.
